Bacon Academy Scholarships
Each June, the CBA awards scholarships to two local high school seniors that intend on studying business in college. The scholarships are given in honor of Loren Marvin and Donald Standish. Marvin was a founding member of the CBA that was very active in the business community throughout his lifetime. Standish was a CBA volunteer that was an integral proponent of “Shopping Colchester” in support of the local business community. The scholarships fund is created from CBA raffles at their monthly dinner meeting. Raffles prizes are donated from CBA members.
Colchester Town Green Project
The Colchester Lions, CBA and Colchester Rotary Club joined forces to install 2 storm drains and a sewer line in the town green. The green is home to numerous events and thousands of attendees during the year. The green was having major water drainage issues and a potential waste water hazard. These three organizations rose to the challenge of fixing the issue, with major help from Paul Picard who dedicated his time and energy to make the project a success and help from Hope Plumbing, Baldi Stone and Gravel, Superior Concrete of Portland, and Professional Electric.
Tag Sale and Business Expo on the Green
For over 35 years the CBA has coordinated an annual tag sale on the Colchester town green. Drawing thousands of attendees from all over the state, the event is an exciting opportunity for people to sell tag sale items, businesses to present their products and services to the public, artists to share their wares, and organizations to raise funds. Registration takes place in the spring. The event is typically held the first Sunday of June.

Memorial Day Parade
Every year, the CBA marches in the local Memorial Day Parade, paying tribute to and in remembrance of those who serve our country in the military. CBA members, guests and their friends march down Norwich Avenue proudly carrying the CBA banner and showing our town spirit! Volunteer members rise early to line the entire parade route with American flags.
Scarecrow Decorating Contest
Each year the CBA and the Colchester Parks & Recreation co-sponsor a community event that takes place on the Colchester Town Green for almost the entire month of October. Association members, individuals, local organizations, and youth groups create unique scarecrow scenes that are designed to decorate the green and celebrate autumn. First and second place prizes are awarded for the best displays in 3 categories, Funniest, Scariest and Most Imaginative.
Holiday Dinner Auction
Every year at our Holiday Dinner Auction, members of the CBA and guests bid on great items donated by the local business community. Proceeds are shared between the Colchester Food and Fuel Bank, Santa’s Anonymous and the CBA high school scholarship fund. CBA members also bring gifts for needy Colchester children to be distributed through Santa’s Anonymous.
